This cycle we are featuring Lincoln Electric's Ranger 225, K2857-1. This gas-driven welder / power plant will pump out 225 Amps DC constant current at a 40% duty cycle or 210 Amps DC at a 100% duty cycle. For constant voltage wire welding you can draw 200 amps DC at 100% duty cycle. The engine is totally enclosed giving a quieter operation and greater protection. The case has three service doors for easy access to the engine. The power comes from a Kohler 23 HP, 2 cylinder, 4-cycle overhead valve engine. It has a 12-gallon fuel tank that has a visual fuel level gauge on both sides of the unit. When running at 210 Amps 100% duty cycle the 12 gallons should allow you run for over 9 hours.
The Auxiliary power generator on the unit will put out 10,500 watts of single phase AC Peak Power to start motors and will run 9000 watts of continuous power for other uses such as plasma cutting, TIG inverter welding, lights, power tools, etc. You will be able to Arc Gouge with up to 5/32 inch carbons. The Auxiliary power is delivered by two 120 Volt duplex receptacles and one 240 Volt receptacle. The Power unit will deliver up to 3950 watts while simultaneously welding at 145 amps.
Thermadyne - Victor has a newly redesigned regulator they call the Edge Professional Series. The design has a few new features. Because of the unique design, it is much less subject to impact damage than the standard style. There is better protection for the indicator gauges. The only thing that protrudes out beyond the diameter of the standard cylinders is the pressure-adjusting knob. This knob has been designed to minimize the damage on the regulator by crumpling back to absorb the force of the impact much the same way as the new cars are designed. They call it their SLAM feature (Shock Limitation and Absorption Mechanism). I wonder if the guy that came up with that clever name got a bonus. Anyway, if it works it will reduce the repair bill if one of your guys yanks the cylinder cart over by pulling on the hose. The Knobs on the regulator are color-coded for the type of gas that the regulator is designed for. The regulator is smaller and lighter than the previous brass ones. (It's made of High Strength Zinc-Aluminum alloy). They also claim the regulator will give better control over the full range of cylinder pressures.
We stock the Victor Journeyman and Journeyman II torch outfits with these new EDGE Regulators.
Anyone who welds knows that sticking your head into the Smokey area over a weld in process can't be good for your lungs. There are various under the hood masks and area ventilation systems designed to keep the air you breathe free of the bad particles floating around in the weld area. Miller Electric has developed their Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR), a truly lightweight portable system that includes a welding hood and a battery operated blower-filter that you can wear. The hood includes Miller Electric's Elite Series Auto-darkening cartridge. The filter unit fits in the small of your back and is held in place by a belt and over-the-shoulder straps like grandpa's suspenders. The HEPA filter, Battery Pak and dual speed motor are contained in this unit. A hose running over the shoulder connects the filter to the hood. The Lithium battery provides 8 hours of operation. The filter meets the NIOSH 42 CFR Part 84. The package includes a bag to hold the whole system when not in use. Do your lungs a favor and use something!
